Social Enterprise Day 2007
'The Big Boost Elevator Event held at Bath University was the highlight of Social Enterprise Day 2006 for me. The enthusiasm, determination and passion shown by everyone who took part in this event was truly inspirational. Social Enterprise has moved far from being the buzz word it once was. Social Enterprise is here to stay!'
Sarah Gwonyoma, Development Manager, The Big Boost

Last year's Enterprise Week saw more than 300 events on the theme of social enterprise take place across the UK, including the announcement of Make Your Mark with a Tenner where 10,000 school students were sent £10 and challenged to maximise their social impact and profit. In 2007, Social Enterprise Day will take place on Thursday 15 November - and we hope it'll be the best yet.
Social enterprises are simply businesses with aims which are primarily social or environmental and whose surpluses are ploughed back into the business or community rather than for personal gain.
They currently generate £27 billion a year in the UK. Some great examples include Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, the Eden Project and the Big Issue.Through Enterprise Week we can inspire the next generation of social entrepreneurs, so get involved!
Social Enterprise Day is part of the Make Your Mark: Change Lives campaign to inspire young people to use enterprising ideas for social and environmental change.

Make Your Mark in 60 Seconds
This is the main way to get involved in Social Enterprise Day (15 November 2007). The competition aims to inspire young people to pitch their enterprising ideas for social and environmental change...in 60 seconds.
There are two stages:
- Young people are asked to watch four short films featuring young social entrepreneurs pitching their ideas in 60 seconds, and then vote for the one they think should win up to £5,000 and two tickets to see Al Gore speak at ?WhatIf! Live. The films include celebrity feedback from inspiring entrepreneurs including Glastonbury's Emily Eavis, Peter Jones of Dragon's Den and The Apprentice's Tim Campbell. Watch the films, see the 'how-to' toolkit and vote on this page from November 8.
- Using the 'Make Your Mark in 60 Seconds Toolkit', young people are challenged to develop their own enterprising ideas for social and environmental change...and to submit them in 60 seconds, here or at www.bebo.com
Celebrity judges and an expert panel from Unltd and ?WhatIf! will select the best entries, again offering the chance to win up to £5,000. The closing date is 8 February 2008. The winner will be announced at Young Voice 08 on 26 February 2008.
